چکیده
Blood Glucose Monitoring In article number 2208820, Qiao Jiang, Baoquan Ding, Yan Wu, Ran Liu, and co-workers describe a fluorescence-amplified origami microneedle (FAOM) device for quantitatively monitoring blood glucose. Through collaboratively integrating the advantages of fluorescence imaging, DNA origami, patch, FAOM can monitor glucose in real-time trivially painful, highly sensitive accurate manner, thus improving test tolerance patient compliance.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).
By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.
متن کاملNon-invasive blood glucose monitoring with Raman spectroscopy: prospects for device miniaturization
The number of patients with diabetes has reached over 350 million, and still continues to increase. The need for regular blood glucose monitoring sparks the interest in the development of modern detection technologies. One of those methods, which allows for noninvasive measurements, is Raman spectroscopy. The ability of infrared light to penetrate deep into tissues allows for obtaining measurem...
متن کاملUse of an automated device for alternative site blood glucose monitoring.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the accuracy, comfort, and ease of use of a new automated device for blood glucose monitoring using the arm as an alternative sampling site. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS These studies use an automated hand-held device that applies a small vacuum, lances the skin, transfers blood onto an electrochemical test strip, and measures glucose. Patients who had type 1 or type 2 di...
متن کاملBiochip for minimally invasive blood glucose monitoring
The most common techniques for blood glucose sensing are based on enzymatic glucose oxidation techniques because of being highly sensitive and specific to the glucose. But, the techniques need oxygen environment and the measurement accuracy is affected by the sufficiency of oxygen. In this paper, a new microsystem for minimally invasive monitoring of blood glucose is proposed. The system propos...
متن کاملDiabetes Management Blood Glucose Monitoring
Fewer than 30 % of patients with diabetes who are on insulin therapy achieve target glycated haemoglobin (HbA1C) levels. Automated bolus calculators (ABCs) are now almost universally used for patients on insulin pump therapy to calculate pre-meal insulin doses. Use of ABCs in glucose monitors and smart phone applications have the potential to improve glucose control in a larger population of in...
